I cannot believe that my tiny baby boys are 5 years old and officially school kids!!
It was with a mix of emotions that I packed their lunches, gave them a squeeze, and sent them on their way to their first day of kindergarten. I may have been a bit of a mess when they got on that big bus this morning, but they did great! Seriously, it was like none of this “big kid” stuff phased them in the slightest! I, on the other hand, had no idea what to do with myself upon returning to the house with only one kid in tow. That has never happened before! My cheeky little 3-year-old just looked up at me and said, “Oh Mom, you’re getting so big…”
Without the boys the house was eerily quiet and clean. …well… clean-ish anyway. I’m not totally complaining. It was just strange. And the day seemed to go on FOREVER! I couldn’t believe how long it was! I haven’t felt like that since the boys were babies. Which of course, made me miss the babies they once were, and then remember that they are now big kindergarteners and realize how fast the time has gone…. and so the emotional cycle continued until we went to meet them at the bus stop.
As we were waiting for the bus to arrive, I asked my daughter if she was excited to see her brothers. Her response? “No. I want them to stay at school.” Hmm… So much for absence making the heart grow fonder, I guess. 😉
While I do miss those two sweet little babies I once had, I am very proud of my big boys and I am excited to see what this next chapter brings for them.
I love you Arthur Solomon and Wesley James!
