My husband and I used to be big campers. We hiked the Superior Hiking Trail and took trips to the Boundry Waters. I was a camp counselor and he was an Outward Bound instructor. We carried packs on our backs and canoes on our shoulders.
And then we had kids. And that was the end of that… at least for awhile. Besides the backyard campout my husband attempted last year with our boys (which was pretty much a total flop), we have done zero camping since 2009. But, we are back!!
Okay… not entirely. But we are headed in that direction. It’s true that camping looks a whole lot different these days than it did in the past. No more tents and trail food. Now its a pop-up camper and drive-up electrical sites, but either way, I am excited to share it with my kiddos. We took the camper out for our maiden voyage a couple weeks ago and, despite not being sure how we would handle the neighbors, the noise, and the fact that there would be more “wildlife” inside our camper than out, we really had a great time and we look forward to many more adventures to come…
